CHEAT SHEET: HOW TO KEEP FIT ON VACATION

Work hard, play hard! But don’t gain back all the weight you shed before your annual beach vacation ūüėȬ†Here‚Äôs how to keep fit on YOUR next vaca¬†without sacrificing all the FUN you want to have!

#1 No Carb Flight

Flights are notorious for passing out little pretzel snacks which sounds amazing in comparison to the often horrible meals. But most people get off flights feeling bloated, hungry, and cranky! Alleviate all that by packing your own in-flight meals! Double check security restrictions in your country but usually you can take ice packs (if the packs are fully frozen they don’t need to pass the water limit) and put them in a bag (or small cooler) with some precooked food-like chicken breast. If that sounds like too much work you can always cut up a lot of veggies and pack them into plastic baggies, raw nuts (unsalted!), Quest bars, fruit, jerky, are all obviously delicious and super healthy!IMG_0370

#2 Start your day right

Ohhhhh breakfast buffets! All the processed pastries that are so bad for you but so fun to eat! Chances are, wherever you’re travelling will have some AMAZING local desserts that you will want to try. So save the sweets for other meals and opt to load up on lean proteins (like omelettes!), fruits, and greens for that oh-so important first meal of the day!

#3 Don’t skip the good stuff

If your trip includes alcohol set a maximum for yourself and try to stick to it. That could mean limiting alcohol to every other day or only at dinner time. If you do choose to drink, try to drink the alcohol on its own- as in wines, beers, or liquor- and making sure to avoid any sugar laden cocktails.IMG_0632edit

#4 Squeeze it in

Make time first thing in the morning to squeeze in a workout, even if it’s in your room or in the hotel hallway (if no gym is available). Just do some body weight compound workouts like squats, burpees, pushups, and lunges! It will help get the blood flowing after a long flight or train ride and get those endorphins pumping–putting you in a better mood to explore the world!

#5 Walk it out

I can’t think of a healthier way to explore a new city than on foot or by bicycle! It’s a great way to get to know a new area. A lot of pedestrian friendly cities have places to rent bicycles–and it will be a lot cheaper than taking a taxi!

#6 Get Local

Live like a local by seeking out local gyms, group exercise classes, or yoga studio that might be around your hotel. Even if you don’t know the language, exercise is universal- so just follow along the teacher- and who knows? You might just¬†make some friends in your class!

#7 Go on an adventure

Get active outside the gym by going on a hike on a local nature trail, or canoeing/paddling in a lake. If you’re in a big city it will give you a few hours to reconnect with yourself and nature. There’s nothing like escaping the hustle and bustle of the city to really recharge your batteries!
