How to Host a Healthy Holiday Meal šŸ“

Whether you’re inviting your family or friends the holiday season can be a time of overindulgence and heavy, heavy dinners! At first they are amazing but after a few gatherings you might find yourself wishing for a big salad instead of more Christmas cookies šŸ™‚

With that in mind here are some tips to make your next gathering a little lighter while still heart warming! Incorporate some, or all, tips and let us know how it works out for you!

Make it Early!

No matter how light or healthy you make the food, your guests are bound to eat a lot! So host your event early giving your guests lots of time to digest. Brunches and lunches are great times to host a holiday gathering!

Powerful Plants!

Start off with a few plant based appetizers, like carrot soup or this cauliflower and fennel soup that I love, roasted vegetables, or a seasonal salad.

Skip the Booze!

Alcohol packs a lot of calories and not much in the way of nutrition. Additionally you tend to over-eat when inebriated! So serve some seasonal herbal teas, hot espresso, or sparkling water!

Fruity Desserts!

You can have your cake and eat it too…when you make fruits (natural sweetness) as the star! Check out this apple and lemon based cake I made recently! You can even opt for a fruit salad or make a yogurt parfait!

But at the end of the day, just remember that this time is meant to be enjoyed with family, and if that means that you’re going to consume a few extra calories while those memories are being made, then so be it. But make sure to hit the gym extra hard when you can!
