The main complaint we hear over and over is that it is so BORING and so HARD to eat healthy. To which we say “Pfft”. Eating healthy is so fun and the tools that we recommend will make your life so easy that you won’t even remember complaining!
We’ve also included some of our favorite books on various nutrition topics if you’re a bookworm like us! Also a few of our fav recipe books/magazine too!
Vegetable Spiralizer– Love pasta but trying to keep it low carb? You can make ZOODLES – zucchini noodles that are so yummy and super low carb! You can even have them raw! Of course besides zucchini you can use other vegetables as well, it comes with a handy recipe booklet that you can experiment with.
Crock pot/Slow Cooker – Set and forget. Literally. This crock pot has a timer so you can set it, go to work, and have dinner ready and piping hot for you when you get back! This was a life saver whenever we came back home late and didn’t have food to take to work the next day. We would throw in a frozen roast, some spices, tomato sauce, water/stock, set the timer for 9 hours and go to sleep. In the morning all I had to do was portion out lunch in tupperware and that’s it!
Vitamix – This was a huge purchase for us…we debated this for probably two years and bought two blenders during that time. One of them was a Ninja which was OK, but not perfect. The Vitamix takes our smoothies, soups, sauces, etc to the next level of creaminess. Is it worth the price? We use it almost every day so for us it was. And since I don’t juice any more, I mix up whole fruits and vegetables and this blender can do the job.
Steamer basket – Any brand will do as long as it expands – but this is the one that I use in my kitchen. Steaming is a really useful technique if you don’t like frying or boiling. I make artichokes in this steamer and I can usually fit 3-4 comfortably!
Big Mouth Chopper – This is perfect for chopping up onions in a breeze (no more crying!). If you make a lot of salsas or cook a lot at home this will save you hours in the long run.
BPA-free Glass Water bottle w/cover – If you’ve been reading the health section of any major magazine or newspaper chances are you’ve read about everyone freaking out over BPA in plastic. Glass is the alternative-which can be a bit dangerous- so the sleeve makes sure to absorb some of the impact if you set it down too hard or knock it against a table.
Infuser Water Bottle – If you’re trying to cut back on soda/flavored drinks – then this will be a big help! Stick some fruit, lemon slices, cucumber slices, mint leaves, basil leaves, etc and leave it overnight. Take the bottle with you to work the next day and you’ll have some tasty–and pretty– water to sip on 🙂
PB Fit – If you’re the type of person that can sit down, turn on Netflix, and eat PB with a spoon from the jar (email me we should be friends) you probably know that isn’t the best idea for any weight loss goals you might have. BUT the magicians at PB Fit have created this amazing low fat peanut butter powder (you just have to mix with water) with 1/3 of the calories and 85% less fat per serving. What kind of sorcery is this!? Plus it’s gluten free with only 3 ingredients (peanuts, sugar, salt).
Goji Berries – Goji berries are one of the most abundant sources of antioxidants, these are a great addition if you like making your own trail mix. The last time I price checked between Amazon and Whole Foods, the “Subscribe and Save” option on Amazon was a few dollars cheaper. So I had it set to send once every 3 months.
Mulberry Berries – Another dried berry favorite! It may look a bit odd since it’s an off white color but it is so sweet! I love them! They are like the small white cousin of blackberries 🙂 They have a lot of awesome stuff in them including resveratrol – the famous anti-aging nutrient in red wine
Quest Bars – Oreo, S’mores, Cookie Dough, and Brownie are the TOP flavors that we sell (and rated online)….but they have a huuuge line of flavors so try them out to see what you like!
Coconut Oil – I love Carrington Farms brand of coconut oil, it has the best taste and consistency. I’ve found these at Costco from time to time, but in case you don’t have a Costco membership this is a link to buy on amazon.
Eat to Live – If you or someone you know has really strong food cravings or is a constant over-eater this could be the book for you! It talks a lot about how a diet that is lacking nutrients messes up all the signals in your body that then causes you to over-eat. Great read.
Digestive Wellness – SO many people have digestive issues these days from IBS, to chronic constipation, and other gastrointestinal disorders. This book talks about this affects your whole body and some ways you can try to solve the problem yourself-naturally!
Dropping Acid – As you can tell this is a book about acid refulx – which Robert used to suffer from for years. Every morning his voice would be hoarse, and it would take him hours to properly digest his meals. He saw a lot of specialists and even took prescription medicine for years. But through a few lifestyle and diet changes he has almost cured himself of it–he still gets it from time to time if he eats one of his trigger foods. They also have some recipes in this book.
Know Your Fats – Fats have gotten a bad rap recently but not all fats are created equal! This book breaks it down the role of fats in our bodies and in cooking.
Clean Eating – This isn’t a book-it’s a magazine- but I LOVE it! The pictures are amazing and the recipes are yummy!
It Starts With Food – The Whole30 is a movement that revolutionized a lot of people’s lives. It’s a simple concept – eat whole foods (nothing unnatural) for 30 days and see the difference! There’s a new edition, but this is the one that we own. Check it out for yourself!
The Warrior Diet – If you’ve ever taken a history class I’m sure you learned about the lifestyles of people from the past- men hunting and women gathering nuts and berries. They would go through periods of fasting only to have a huge feast! This book explores this concept and how you can get a lean and strong body like those ancient warriors
The Paleo Solution – The world’s leader on Paleo eating lifestyle Robb Wolf. He’s super-paleo-intense but I think it’s good to know the basics of paleo which everyone can incorporate into their lifestyles with great benefit. I wouldn’t say that we eat all paleo or all raw or all of any one diet, but a mixture of what makes sense from all the various ones that are out there.
