We love supporting local businesses. It’s a great way to contribute to your local community and I love that you get to know the person behind the product!
I met Jessy J and loved her passion for her products. It’s not often that you get to meet the person that is handcrafting the food that you love. Her line “J Jar Homemade” offers products like nut butters, tapenades, and pestos. Overall she has 10 different kinds of spreads between sweet and savory each with nutritional facts and suggested food pairings on every jar.
We did a taste test of a few of her nut butters – cashew, almond and peanut. (pictured clockwise in that order).
First of all check out that natural separation of the oil…that’s how you know you’ve got some good nut butter! 🙂 Once you open your jar you have to put in some work to get it mixed…oh but it’s worth it! We spread them on plain rice cakes just to give us a clean baseline to try out the flavors and spread-ability (i think i made up that word!).
The cashew butter is very thick – so it was a bit hard to spread – but I loved the thickness. The flavors of the cashews came out beautifully in “butter” form. It was our first time tasting a cashew butter and it’s truly delicious!
The almond butter is much more spreadable than the cashew. I’m not a huge fan of almonds but I thought the almond butter was amazing and it ended up being my favorite out of all three!
Finally the peanut butter! If you’re a fan of the classic peanut butter you find at stores…this is NOT it…and that’s a good thing! Jessy’s PB is made without any added sugar so the lovely peanut taste can really be the star. Store-bought PBs usually have sugar (among other things) added and taste different than actual peanuts.
You can currently find her products at Souk al Tayeb, Food Dealer in Mar Mikhael, O&C Antelias, Olivier & Co. in ABC Achrafieh, Cosi Food in Beit Merri, and many more. You can also find her on Facebook and Instagram.
